STATEMENT OF MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG ON ASSEMBLY PASSAGE OF GUN MICROSTAMPING AND CROSSOVER MIRROR BILLS

Statement of Mayor Bloomberg on Gun Microstamping Bill

"The State Assembly today stood up for police officers, district attorneys and all New Yorkers by voting to give law enforcement a new tool to solve gun crimes. Microstamping, which is a new technology that imprints a unique mark on every bullet casing, helps connect guns - and their owners - to crimes. When this bill failed to pass the State Senate last year, I pledged on behalf of more than 100 mayors and 83 police chiefs and law enforcement organizations across New York State to keep fighting for it. Thanks to the leadership of Assemblywoman Michelle Schimel, the bill is once again before the Senate, having passed the Assembly. New Yorkers now need their Senators to stand up and finally approve this common-sense, crucial legislation."

Statement of Mayor Bloomberg on Bill to Require Crossover Mirrors on Large Trucks to Eliminate Blind Spots

"The Assembly has been on the right side of this issue for years and with the bill now passing both chambers, this very simple solution we have been pressing for should help save lives. I want to thank Speaker Silver, Assemblywoman Millman and the rest of the Assembly for their continued efforts to make our streets even safer."

Statement of Transportation Commissioner Janette Sadik-Khan on Bill to Require Crossover Mirrors on Large Trucks to Eliminate Blind Spots

"The time for crossover mirrors on our trucks has come. Something as simple as a mirror can mean the difference between life and death and we owe it to everyone that uses our streets, particularly children and seniors - the least visible on our streets - to take this step. I applaud the Legislature for coming together so resoundingly in the name of safety."
