STATEMENT OF MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG ON THE EXTENSION OF TEMPORARY PROTECTED STATUS FOR HAITI BY DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY SECRETARY JANET NAPOLITANO

“After the earthquake in Haiti, New Yorkers – and Americans across the country – pledged our support to the survivors of that tragedy, and today Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano renewed that commitment to providing assistance while conditions in Haiti slowly improve.  There are over 120,000 New Yorkers of Haitian descent living in our five boroughs, and re-designating and extending Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haiti makes both humanitarian and economic sense, and it will allow many to continue working in and contributing to our City.”
