MAYOR BLOOMBERG CELEBRATES NFL VOTE TO GIVE NEW YORK AREA FIRST-EVER SUPER BOWL BY RENAMING 48TH STREET IN TIMES SQUARE, "SUPER BOWL XLVIII STREET"

Mayor Bloomberg’s Remarks as Delivered at the Times Square Celebration with Justin Tuck of the New York Giants and Darrelle Revis of the New York Jets Follow:

"Are we happy? Another great day. It's official: New York and New Jersey, for the very first time, the Super Bowl - the biggest game in the world - is coming to the world's biggest stage.

"And why not? This is the town of Broadway Joe and the Super Bowl-winning Jets. This is the town of Simms and Manning and the Super Bowl-winning Giants. The town where Lombardi was born, where Gifford, Huff, Maynard and Martin played. This is where the NFL makes its home. So of course it should be here.

"Now, we worked hard to convince the NFL to host the Super Bowl here and we really are honored. And here's what I'm predicting for February 2014: perfect weather, a balmy 40 degrees.  If it snows, it snows.  This isn't beach volleyball, it's football for God's sakes!

"We're going to have thousands of visitors from out of town pumping hundreds of millions of dollars into New York City and Northern New Jersey's economy, and bolstering our position as the number one tourist destination in the country. We're going to have a worldwide television audience, and on the field you'll find the two best teams in the game squaring off. This Super Bowl, I predict, number 48 in 2014, will be the New York Jets and the New York Football Giants! And the final score in overtime will be 34-31.  I wish I could tell you who would win but I'm running out of time.  So all you have to do is tune in on February '14 for Super Bowl 48.

"Now we are going to rename 48th Street something that really the world will remember, and I want you to watch this. It is- we're changing the name of 48th Street to Super Bowl 48th Way.

"You just start getting ready, the best is yet to come. Enjoy the day. And thank you to the NFL for their confidence in us. We will not disappoint them. This is going to be great."
