MAYOR BLOOMBERG SIGNS LEGISLATION ESTABLISHING THE COMMUTER VAN BILL OF RIGHTS

Remarks by Mayor Bloomberg at a Public Hearing on Local Laws

“The next bill before me today is Introductory Number 1023-A, sponsored by Council Members Stewart, James, Gerson, Seabrook, Mealy, Nelson, Palma, Sanders, Reyna, Lappin, Jackson, White, Gennaro, Mitchell, Recchia, and Weprin.

“In 1996, the Taxi & Limousine Commission  established a passenger bill of rights for taxis.  Earlier this year, in partnership with the City Council, that bill of rights was codified, and also extended to liveries.  Today, we’re taking another important step in ensuring a quality experience for every passenger of TLC’s regulated industries.  The commuter van bill of rights will enable riders to hold their drivers accountable for safe, clean, and efficient travel throughout the five boroughs.

“I would like to thank Taxi & Limousine Commission Chairman Matt Daus and his staff for their work on this bill, as well as the City Council for approving this legislation.”
