MAYOR BLOOMBERG SIGNS LEGISLATION TO HELP BALANCE THE FY 2010 CITY BUDGET

Remarks by Mayor Bloomberg at a Public Hearing on Local Laws

“The final five bills before me today help balance the FY 2010 budget approved by the Council on June 19th and will help achieve efficiencies and revenues for the City in future years as well.

“Introductory Number 1009, sponsored at the request of the Administration by Council Members Weprin and James establishes a new fee schedule for applications submitted to the Board of Standards and Appeals.

“Introductory Number 1010-A, sponsored at the request of the Administration by Council Members Weprin, Dickens and James narrows the non-profit fee exemption for inspections performed by the Fire Department.

“Introductory Number 1011, sponsored at the request of the Administration by Council Members Weprin, James and Nelson enables multiple agencies to share administrative functions, thereby increasing efficiencies and reducing costs.

“Introductory Number 1012, sponsored at the request of the Administration by Council Members Weprin, Fidler and James requires the full hotel occupancy tax be paid for the full amount of charges that customers pay for hotel rooms when they book through online travel companies.

“Introductory Number 1026, sponsored at the request of the Administration by Council Members Weprin, Arroyo, Fidler, Gentile, Jackson, James, Mark-Viverito, Mealy, Nelson, Palma, Seabrook and Gerson, transfers the administration of the Senior Citizens Rent Increase Exemption Program from the Department for the Aging to the Department of Finance.

“I would like to thank Office of Management & Budget Director Mark Page and all the agency staff for their work on these bills.  I would also like to thank the Council for approving this legislation.
