STATEMENT BY MAYOR BLOOMBERG ON QUEENS BOROUGH PRESIDENT HELEN MARSHALL'S APPROVAL OF WILLETS POINT REDEVELOPMENT PLAN

Positive Recommendation Follows the Approval of the Plan by Community Board Seven and Completes Second Phase of the Uniform Land Use Review Procedure

"Queens Borough President Marshall's approval of the Willets Point Redevelopment Plan yesterday evening is another major step forward for one of the most important environmental contamination clean-up efforts in New York City. Once remediated, Willets Point will become the City's first LEED-certified sustainable neighborhood - providing thousands of units of new housing and creating more than 5,000 permanent and 18,000 construction jobs. I applaud the work of the Borough President, her office, and the Willets Point Advisory Committee in helping shape a plan to revitalize Flushing and Willets Point, and we look forward to continue working with the Borough President as the historic project moves forward."
