STATEMENT FROM MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG ON WAYS AND MEANS ACTION ON FEDERAL FUNDING FOR RAIL LINK AND ADDITIONAL TAX CREDITS FOR ENERGY CONSERVATION

“Today I applaud the Ways and Means Committee for reporting out a bill that provides $2 billion in funding for transportation in New York and will help provide for a rail link from Lower Manhattan to Long Island, Jamaica, Downtown Brooklyn and JFK International Airport. This $2 billion is the last piece of the $20 billion in federal funding to New York after September 11th.  This new rail link will help solidify Lower Manhattan’s standing as one of the world’s premiere centers for finance; create tens of thousands of new, permanent jobs; produce between $9 - $12 billion annually in economic output; and improve mass transit options throughout the metropolitan region.  This bill also provides several tax incentives for energy conservation and renewable sustainable energy, which complement our PlaNYC efforts here in New York.  These types of tax credits demonstrate the type of forward thinking we need and I want to thank Chairman Rangel for his leadership and hard work in moving this forward.  I’d also like to thank Congressman Joe Crowley for his continued support of our efforts.”
