MAYOR BLOOMBERG SIGNS LEGISLATION EXPANDING COMPSTAT TO CITY PARKS

Remarks by Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg at a Public Hearing on Local Laws

"The next bill before me is Introductory number 470-A, sponsored by Council Members Addabbo, Vallone, Baez, Brewer, Comrie, Felder, Fidler, Gennaro, Gerson, Jackson, Katz, Liu, Martinez, Monserrate, Nelson, Perkins, Quinn, Recchia, Sanders, Seabrook, Stewart, Weprin, Moskowitz, Rivera, Avella, Clarke, Foster, Gonzalez, James, Palma, Reed, Sears, Vann, McMahon, Gentile, DeBlasio, Yassky, Koppell, Gioia, Dilan, Reyna, Barron, Arroyo, Lopez, Speaker Miller and the Public Advocate Betsy Gotbaum.

"This bill requires the Police Department to submit to the Council reports of major felony crime complaints for the 20 largest City parks. When the resources are available and technological enhancements have been made, the Police Department will eventually extend this report to all parks greater than one acre in size.

"This measure will continue the Administration's commitment to open and transparent government. I would like to thank the Police Department and the City Council for their work on this bill."
