STATEMENT BY MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG ON THE RESIGNATION OF DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION COMMISSIONER CHRISTOPHER O. WARD

“All New Yorkers owe Chris Ward a dept of gratitude.  He has been an outstanding steward of our precious water supply and has added thousand of acres to New York’s watershed.  Chris has tackled many difficult issues with integrity and a commitment to our environment.  Each day, millions of New Yorkers turn on the tap and flush the toilets without giving it a thought – it’s a small miracle that Chris Ward has helped perform everyday.  We wish him the best in his future endeavors.  I have asked Nat Leventhal, Chair of the Mayor’s Commission on Appointments, to begin a search for a successor.”

“I want to express my deep appreciation to Mayor Bloomberg for giving me the opportunity to serve in his administration and for his continued support of DEP’s efforts,” said Commissioner Ward.  “DEP is truly a remarkable agency, with a critically important mission and a dedicated staff.  It has been my great pleasure to serve as Commissioner, and I know that the good work I have been so fortunate to be part of will continue with even greater successes.”
