STATEMENT BY MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG ON THE ZARB COMMISSION REPORT ON EDUCATION

"The Zarb Commission report on state education illustrates how Albany has been shortchanging New York City schoolchildren for decades.   Based on neutral factors, specifically student need and regional costs, the report finds that New York City should receive between 74% and 88% of the additional funding from the State - which would be twice the percentage of overall statewide funding we currently receive.  It is time for the State to correct this historic injustice.

"We thank the Governor for his leadership on this crucial issue and look forward to working with him, Speaker Silver and Majority Leader Bruno to ensure that New York City's 1.1 million school children get the resources needed to receive a sound basic education."
