MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG AND POLICE COMMISSIONER RAYMOND W. KELLY HONOR POLICE OFFICER DISDALE O. ENTON AT PLAQUE DEDICATION CEREMONY

Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly today honored Police Officer Disdale O. Enton at a plaque dedication ceremony at the 113th Precinct Station House.   Police Officer Enton died on Wednesday, August 27, 2002, from a brain aneurysm that he suffered while chasing a domestic abuse suspect.  He was 33 years old.

“Disdale Enton was a dedicated police officer and deeply devoted to his mother, brother, and eight sisters,” said Mayor Bloomberg. “He was committed to protecting the citizens of our City each day he came to work, and it is through dedication like his that we have been able to keep crime down.  He was truly one of New York’s Finest.”

“Police Officer Disdale O. Enton was an outstanding and highly dedicated member of this Department,” said Commissioner Kelly.  “During his four years as a New York City Police Officer, he performed his duties with the highest level of excellence and professionalism. Today, we dedicate this plaque not only to honor his memory, but also to forever remind us of the tremendous sacrifice that he made to protect this city.”

Police Officer Enton had been patrolling Merrick Boulevard in Jamaica, Queens, at 10 p.m. on August 23, 2002, when he and his partner were called to Baisley Boulevard to back up two detectives who had spotted the suspect, later identified as Anthony Campbell. Once they arrived, Officer Enton and his partner, Police Officer Taiwo Miller, began chasing Campbell, following him over fences and through backyards before eventually losing track of him.  As the two were leaving a backyard on Baisley Boulevard, Officer Enton collapsed.  He never regained consciousness.

Officer Enton joined the Department in 1998, and worked nights so that he could pursue his other passion, flying his plane, during the day. He hoped to join the Department’s Aviation Unit one day. He had lived with his fiancée for the past eight years.
