MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG ANNOUNCES SURVEY TO BE CONDUCTED BY THE MAYOR'S TASK FORCE ON EMERGENCY RESPONSE ABOUT THE POWER OUTAGE EXPERIENCES OF NEW YORKERS

Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg today announced that the Mayor’s Task Force on Emergency Response is conducting a survey regarding the August 2003 power outage experiences of all New Yorkers.  New Yorkers can participate in the survey by visiting the City’s Web site, http://www.nyc.gov or by dialing 311.  The survey is available in English and Spanish on nyc.gov and in 170 languages through 311.

“While overall the City responded well, we can always learn from our experiences and find ways to improve our current procedures,” said Mayor Bloomberg.  “Feedback from the public will help the Task Force make recommendations that will improve our response during the next emergency.  I encourage all New Yorkers to participate in this important survey.”

On August 18th the Mayor formed the Task Force, which includes members of both the public and private sectors, to examine the City's emergency response to the power outage and to make recommendations on how the City can be even better prepared, and perform more ably during times of emergency.  The Task Force is chaired by Susan Kupferman, the Director of the Mayor’s Office of Operations and by Andrew Alper, the President of the New York City Economic Development Corporation.  The survey will be taken from September 12th to September 18th.
