Eight- Day Campaign Involving 150 Retailers Across the City Will Lift Retail Sales at the Beginning of the Fall Shopping Season

Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg joined by Daily News President and Chief Operating Officer Les Goodstein announced “NEW YORK CITY SHOP & SAVE WEEK,” an aggressive eight-day campaign to promote and increase retail sales in New York City.  From September 14th-21st, over 200 retailers in all five boroughs will slash their prices to encourage New Yorkers and visitors to shop.  Those retailers who participate in the program will be featured in a special pullout section of the Daily News on September 14th and on New York 1 and New York 1 Noticias.

“Everyone can help keep New York City’s economy strong and vibrant,” said Mayor Bloomberg.  “I want to thank the Daily News, New York 1 and New York 1 Noticias for spearheading this campaign to boost economic activity in the City.  This program is a win-win for everyone. Retailers benefit from increased sales and New Yorkers benefit from lower prices.

“’NEW YORK CITY SHOP & SAVE week is a great way for retailers to kick start the fall and holiday shopping season and help contribute to New York City’s continued growth and renewal,” said Mr. Goodstein.

Participating retailers will include Macy’s, J & R Music World, Modells, Computer World, Sleepy’s, Rockaway Bedding, Levits and P.C. Richard and Son. The sale will apply to all items from furniture to cosmetics to clothing and electronics.
