MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG’S STATEMENT ON COUNCIL LAND USE SUB-COMMITTEE PASSAGE OF STREET FURNITURE RESOLUTION

“I am pleased that the City Council’s Land Use subcommittee has passed the necessary resolution to create a comprehensive and coordinated street furniture plan for New York City.  Our sidewalks will have new bus stop shelters and the resolution also allows for the introduction of new trashcans, information kiosks, public restrooms, and news racks that will generate millions of dollars in needed revenue for the City.  I would like to thank Deputy Mayor Dan Doctoroff, Transportation Commissioner Iris Weinshall, and Land Use Chair Melinda Katz for their tireless work and spirit of cooperation and as we move forward we will continue to work collectively with the Council to resolve any outstanding issues regarding newsstands and any other items.”
