MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG ANNOUNCES THE RELEASE OF THE INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS IN NEW YORK CITY: 2003 DIRECTORY

Directory Helps Promote International Business in New York City

Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg today announced the release of The International Business in New York City: 2003 Directory at a reception hosted by JFK International Air Terminal LLC, a private consortium that built, developed and operates Terminal 4 at JFK Airport.  The Directory compiles data on foreign companies that have operations in New York City, as well as the consulates general, trade offices, chambers of commerce, and missions to the United Nations located in the City.  It is the most comprehensive listing of foreign companies doing business in any city in America.  Deputy Mayor for Administration Patricia E. Harris, Commissioner of the New York City Commission for the United Nations, Consular Corps, and Protocol Marjorie B. Tiven, President of JFK IAT Alain Maca, and Dean of the Zicklin School of Business at Baruch College John Elliot attended the announcement.

“New York City continues to be the business capital of the world with more than 3,000 foreign companies making New York their second home,” Mayor Bloomberg said. “The contributions of the foreign chambers of commerce, the trade commissioners, consulates general, and New York City companies and organizations create a supportive international atmosphere for all companies doing business in New York City.”

“The synergy that is created between the Consular Corps, trade commissions and bilateral chambers, and foreign-owned businesses can only encourage success in the international business community,” Commissioner Tiven said.  “So many foreign-owned companies are located in New York City, because they know the value of doing business here.  We are committed to assisting any foreign-owned business that wants to open operations in New York City.”

The new Directory compiles essential contact information for international companies doing business in New York City. The 2003 Directory contains the following key components:

The Weissman Center for International Business has been a partner in publishing the last four editions of the Directory.  They have played a large role in the production of the Directory by updating information, conducting research, and database management.

“The international business community is an important asset to New York City,” said Dr. Terrence Martell, Director of the Weissman Center for International Business.  “We are happy to play a part in recognizing and supporting their efforts here. We all want New York City to continue to be the international business capital of the world.

The Directory was co-published by the City’s Division for International Business, part of the New York City Commission for the United Nations, Consular Corps, and Protocol and the Weissman Center for International Business at Baruch College.  For information, or to purchase The International Business In New York City: 2003 Directory, please contact the New York CityStore, (212) 669-8246.
