MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG SIGNS BILL ADDING HONORARY
NAMES TO CITY THOROUGHFARES AND PUBLIC SPACES
Remarks by Mayor Bloomberg at a Public Hearing on Local Laws
"The bill before me is Introductory Number 22-A, sponsored by 30 Council Members. This bill will add honorary names to thirteen different thoroughfares and public places across the City. While time does not permit me to engage in a separate discussion of each person and organization honored in the legislation, I know that each is worthy of recognition and enjoys the support of many Council Members and community leaders.
"Many of
the individuals whose names are honored today were civic leaders who
provided significant contributions to New York City during their lives.
I would also like to make special note of the fallen firefighters
honored in the bill. The legislation will honor three members of the
FDNY who lost their lives as a result of the attack on our nation
on September 11th, Captain Patrick J. Brown and Firefighters Steve
Mercado and Christopher J. Pickford."
