MAYOR BLOOMBERG ANNOUNCES THE
WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT JOB EXPO AT
JACOB K. JAVITS CONVENTION CENTER
Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg today announced that the City would be
holding the Workforce Development Job Expo, previously known as the
Twin Towers Job Expo, on January 29th from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center at 655 West 34th Street.
To date, over 200 employers with more than 15,000 job openings have
registered but the City is hoping to reach its goal of 400 employers
to attend the event.
"Job Expos leverage public and private partnerships for the common good," said Mayor Bloomberg. "The City's Workforce Development Job Expo provides employers with strong candidates, and New Yorkers with opportunities to present their talents and abilities. Our goal is to provide as many job options as possible for individuals seeking jobs. The bottom line is that people want to work and this Expo will be the first step in that process. I encourage interested employers to contact our Job Hotline at 1-866-JOBS-NYC to register today."
The employers already registered for the Workforce Development Job Expo include Airborne Express, Century 21 Department Stores, First Union Bank, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and MetLife. Employers wishing to register can go to the City's website at twintowersjobs.org or call the Job Hotline at 1-866-JOBS-NYC.
The Workforce Development Job Expo is open to all New Yorkers looking for work, including individuals who were directly or indirectly affected as a result of the September 11th tragedy. The City expects to attract over 6,000 job seekers.
Over 500 employers
attended the three Twin Towers Job Expos at Madison Square Garden
run by the Human Resources Administration (HRA) in Fall 2001. As a
result of the first three Expos, HRA has confirmed that over 750 attendees
were matched with jobs through approximately 100 employers in the
health care, security, retail, financial, and professional service
industries.
