MAYOR GIULIANI JOINS BOROUGH PRESIDENT CLAIRE SHULMAN AND
STATE ASSEMBLYMAN ANTHONY SEMINERIO AT OPENING CEREMONIES
FOR NEW DASANI BOTTLED WATER PLANT IN QUEENS

Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani today joined Queens Borough President Claire Shulman, State Assemblyman Anthony Seminerio, and employees of the Coca-Cola Bottling Company of New York at a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Dasani bottled water production line in Maspeth, Queens.

"Our City has a long history of milestones in the beverage industry. Now for the first time, a nationally-distributed brand of bottled water will be produced right here in Queens, proving something we've always said: New York City has the best water in the country," Mayor Giuliani said.

"Our latest venture in the City continues a relationship we have fostered for decades," said Robert Lanz, vice-president of public affairs at Coca-Cola. "Since 1980, Coca-Cola products have been bottled in Maspeth. Now, the best bottled water in the country will also come from New York City."

Officials expect to produce eight million bottles of water at the plant, which will process and bottle water from the New York City region. Overall, 35 million cases of Coca-Cola products will be bottled this year at the Maspeth plant, which has been in operation for 21 years.
