Davis Selflessly Searched For, Found, and Returned a Customer's Engagement Ring
Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani today presented a citation to livery cab driver Larry Davis of the "Four Two's Car Service." After customer Erica Christian of Flushing lost her engagement ring in Mr. Davis's car, he retraced his route from that day, tracked down the $10,000 ring, and returned it. The couple offered Mr. Davis a reward, which he declined.
"Larry Davis exemplifies the caring spirit of New Yorkers, who time and again prove that they're willing to go way out of their way to help people," Mayor Giuliani said. "After Erica Davis lost her ring, Larry Davis searched his car twice, and allowed Erica and her husband to search it as well. Even though they didn't find the ring, Larry didn't give up. On his own time, he retraced his route, and searched the areas where he had picked up passengers. He found the ring on the street, and returned it to a tearful, but joyful and greatly relieved Erica Christian."
The Mayor continued, "On behalf of the City of New York, I'm proud today to present Mr. Davis with a citation for this selfless act. He is a true hero."
"I just did what I thought was right," Mr. Davis said. "I know how upsetting it is when something like this happens, and I felt sorry for the woman."
