Pediatric Cardiac Code Team

Course Description:

The Pediatric Cardiac Code Team Course is designed to share evidence-based practice for the team-based clinical management of respiratory and cardiac arrest situations in emergency department, pediatric inpatient ward, and ICU settings. The course incorporates an interdisciplinary model of learning for physicians and nurses, highlighting the basic skills needed to ensure better patient outcomes during high-acuity, rapid-response events. The course employs active learning methodologies, engaging participants to acquire and process the latest evidence-based information and ‘best practices’ with regard to cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills, teamwork, and communication (TeamSTEPPS). Learners will practice and assess their cardiac arrest management and teamwork skills using both part-task and high-fidelity simulators in realistic code scenarios. The expectation is that learners participating in this session will transfer these code team duties independently and collectively during real-life situations.

Audience: Attendings, residents, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and nurses who work in the pediatric or neonatal ICU, emergency department, pediatric inpatient floors.
