Global Partners Junior is featured on Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's Teaching and Technology segment

Summer 2014 Global Partners Junior Program

In partnership with the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation, NYC Global Partners will offer a 7-week summer program to Computer Resource Centers in New York City and schools in Accra, Johannesburg, Melbourne, Mumbai, and São Paulo.  International schools interested in participating can request an application by contacting gpjunior@cityhall.nyc.gov.

Global Partners Junior Anthology

The Global Partners Junior Anthology highlights outstanding student work from Unit 3: Bringing Fiction to Life during 2013-2014 academic year. Students were asked to use their interviews with community leaders to compose a fictional story about a character taking action – big or small – to improve the local community. The project focused on improving students’ grammar skills, point-of-view consistency, plot structures, figures-of-speech usage, and critical thinking. The Anthology also includes 13 winning and honorable-mentioned stories from the Spring 2013 Global Partners Junior Creative Writing Contest.  The highest-scoring New York and international student in the contest each received a laptop.

Global Partners Junior Writers' Workshop

Eight Global Partners Junior students participated in a writing workshop at the Stephen A. Schwartzman Building of the New York Public Library on December 7, 2013. Participants included winners from the Spring 2013 Global Partners Junior writing contest, as well as top online participants for the Fall 2013 semester. Students hailed from M.S. 172, Parks Sorrentino Recreation Center, Parks Jackie Robinson Recreation Center, NYCHA Beach 41st Street Community Center, I.S. 204, and Todt-Hill Westerleigh Public Library. The workshop was led by Clay McLeod Chapman, young adult author and one of the judges for the Global Partners Junior Writing Contest.  Through a variety of activities, Chapman helped students hone their narrative and storytelling skills, and begin to develop their editing techniques.

Global Partners Junior Writing Contest Winners Recognized at the Brooklyn Book Festival

Seven Global Partners Junior middle school students were recognized for their outstanding story submissions at the Brooklyn Book Festival on September 22, 2013 during a ceremony at the Brooklyn Historical Society. Mayor Bloomberg announced the contest last spring during the NYC Literary Honors event at Gracie Mansion, and more than 300 students submitted stories. NYC winners hailed from M.S. 172, Parks Sorrentino Recreation Center, NYCHA Beach 41st Street Community Center, and Mott Haven Library. International student winners were recognized from Mexico City, Paris, London and Mumbai. Winners were awarded certificates of achievement and prizes, including laptops, iPads, and e-readers.

Global Partners Junior Creative Writing Contest Announcement

Global Partners Junior students in New York City and around the world are eligible to enter the 2013 Global Partners Junior Creative Writing Contest! First place winners will receive laptops; second place winners will receive tablet computers; third place winners will receive e-readers. Award winners will be celebrated at local ceremonies and have their work showcased in at the Brooklyn Book Festival, an international book festival that brings together writers and readers of all ages.

Global Partners Junior Summer 2012 Program at New York Public Library branches

Students at 12 New York Public Library branches will connect with students in Accra, Melbourne, Mumbai, Rio de Janeiro and Sydney during the first summer offering of Global Partners Junior in July and August 2012. This summer's collaborative curriculum focuses on building sustainable cities.

Student Gather for Celebration at Gracie Mansion with Big Apple Winners

Global Partners Junior students from participating NYC sites gathered at Gracie Mansion on June 19, 2012 to celebrate their achievements from the year.  Each class exhibited a final project, and awards were given for excellence in global awareness, technology, literacy, and this year’s curriculum theme: excellent business plan development and advertising.

As a result of a competition among 26 NYC Global Partners Junior educators to win a trip to London, four New York City educators were selected for their excellence, leadership, and enthusiasm for Global Partners Junior throughout the 2011-12 program year. While in London they participated in professional development meetings with their British counterparts and visited London schools.

New York City Students Celebrate International Exchange Program, Global Partners Junior, at Gracie Mansion With Big Apple Winners From Seven Foreign Cities

Global Partners Junior, an award winning online exchange program that connects middle school students around the world, celebrated the end of the 2010-2011 program year with an exhibition and award presentation at Gracie Mansion. Awards were presented for student projects focused on this year’s “Living Cities” sustainability theme.

Big Apple Contest Winners Announced!

NYC Global Partners will host nine Global Partners Junior educators from Accra, Dublin, London, Melbourne, Mumbai, Prague, and Toronto from June 18 to 22, 2011. These teachers were selected as a result of their dedication and participation during the 2010-11Global Partners Junior program year. Support for their visit was generously provided by Delta Air Lines.

During their stay in the Big Apple, our international visitors will meet with school leaders and teachers from New York City and attend the Global Partners Junior end of year student exhibition at Gracie Mansion, the historic home of New York City mayors. Additional activities will include site visits to local schools, professional development meetings, discussions with education administrators and teachers, and cultural visits to New York City landmarks.

End of Year Student Exhibition – June 21, 2011

This spring all classes will show how sustainability can be "delicious" by designing a zero or low-impact street vendor cart that sells food inspired by a global city. Students will exhibit their projects at Gracie Mansion on June 21st, 2011. View details about this year's project.
