Sleep disordered breathing abnormalities occur in the general population with a frequency of 2% - 4% (similar to diabetes and asthma). If left untreated this disorder can cause systemic and pulmonary hypertension, cardiac arrhythmias, increased risk of stroke, cognitive impairment and impaired quality of life.
