DELIVER YOUR BABY WITH US > BREAST FEEDING CLASS AT EHC


The Nursing Department at Elmhurst Hospital Center sponsors the Breastfeeding Class for any individuals interested in learning about breastfeeding.

Participants will learn about the benefits of breastfeeding and how to recognize and prevent common breastfeeding problems, as well as enhance and prolong your breastfeeding experience. Special situations such as illness and premature birth will also be addressed.

Following is the list of topics covered by the class:

  • Benefits of breastfeeding for Mother and Infant.
  • Anatomy of the breast.
  • How the body makes breast milk.
  • How to put the infant to breast: Proper Latch-on and Holding positions.
  • How to identify when the infant is getting enough breast milk.
  • How to maintain adequate production of breast milk.
  • Growth spurts / rapid growth of infant and meeting his needs.
  • Breast care.
  • Nutrition for breastfeeding mother.
  • Frequency and duration of breastfeeding to assure adequate growth and development of infant.
  • Special Situations:
    • C-Section delivery
    • Premature birth
    • Working and breastfeeding
    • Illness (Mother and Infant)
  • When and how to use a breast pump.
  • How to store and use breast milk.
  • SIDS
  • HIV

Breastfeeding mothers and their babies should attend; family members and anyone else interested in learning about breastfeeding are also welcome.

Classes are held on Mondays, 9:15 am - 11:45 am, in Auditorium C-6, which is located on the 6th Floor of the Main Building at Elmhurst Hospital Center.
