May 5, 2014 - In May, a diverse line-up of films will be on display at a host of film festivals taking place in NYC.
New York Indian Film Festival
Now underway, the 14th annual New York Indian Film Festival includes five days of screenings, post-screening discussions, industry panels, special events, nightly networking parties and other events. The festival is presented by the Indo-American Arts Council, which aims to promote the creation, production, exhibition, publication and performance of Indian and cross-cultural art forms in North America. New York Turkish Film Festival
The 13th New York Turkish Film Festival takes place May 16-25. Organized by the American Turkish Society, whose mission seeks to enhance economic, education and cultural ties between Turkey and the US, the festival includes screenings and panel discussions with filmmakers. Mental Health Film Festival
The 10th Annual Community Access/NYAPRS NYC Mental Health Film Festival brings a vivid selection of thought-provoking films that positively portray the mental health community. The two-day event (May 17-18) also includes Q&A sessions with filmmakers, and lively audience discussions. This year’s special theme is hospitals and their alternatives. Brooklyn Film Festival
This year’s Brooklyn Film Festival includes over 100 film premieres as part of its line-up. Networking and other special events are also scheduled throughout the festival whose mission is to provide a public forum in Brooklyn in order to advance public interest in films and the independent production of films. Sprout Film Festival
Taking place May 31-June 1, the 2014 Sprout Film Festival showcases films featuring people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
