Film Festivals Flourish This Fall

October 1, 2009 - Film festivals are taking place around the City throughout October.

47th Annual New York Film Festival (September 25 – October 11)
Continuing until October 11 is the 47th Annual New York Film Festival. Taking place at the newly renovated Alice Tully Hall, this year’s festival showcases the best in cinema. The 2009 Sundance Film Festival Award winner and “Made in NY” film Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire will be the festival’s centerpiece film. Queer Black Cinema (October 15 – October 18)
Celebrating the best in independent music and film concerning the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer community is the 2nd Annual Queer Black Cinema International Film & Music Festival. The four-day multi-media event will take place October 15 – 18, 2009. Events for the festival will take place at Maysles Cinema house. Also scheduled are various workshops and musical performances. Imagine Science Film Festival (October 15 – October 24)
The second annual Imagine Science Film Festival kicks off on October 15 at Tribeca Cinemas for nine days of the very best in science-themed films, including feature presentations Sizzle, Quantum Quest and The Clone Returns Home. In addition to ticketed events, there will be five additional nights of free science-in-fiction films, documentaries and animations. Fordham Law Film Festival (October 16 – October 22)
Offering a unique insight and opportunity to discuss the legal system and its portrayal in film is the 4th Fordham Law Film Festival. Taking place October 16-22, 2009 this free event will be held at the McNally Amphitheatre located near Lincoln Center. Special post screening guest will include film director Peter Bogdanovich and television personality Erin Brockovich. CMJ Film Festival (October 20 – October 24)
Hitting the nightclubs and theatres of New York City is the CMJ Music Marathon & Film Festival of 2009. From October 20 through the 24, CMJ ’09 will have exclusive exhibits, meet and greets, seminars and much more.
