NEW YORK – NYC Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez today reminds New Yorkers the city’s largest-ever Summer Streets program is set to return this Saturday, July 26, and will run for five consecutive Saturdays through August 23. This year marks another historic expansion of the program, with more than 22 miles of car-free streets across all five boroughs — including, for the first time ever, a continuous route spanning the length of Manhattan, from the Brooklyn Bridge to Inwood.

From 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. each Saturday, New Yorkers will enjoy miles of streets open to pedestrians, cyclists, and families — free of cars and full of free programming, art, fitness, and cultural activities.

Summer Streets reimagines our public space as a shared resource, turning city streets into corridors of movement, culture, and creativity.” said NYC DOT Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez. “This historic expansion of Summer Streets reflects the Adams administration’s commitment to making our streets more vibrant and inclusive — spaces where community life can thrive alongside how we move through the city.”

Citywide Schedule:

  • Saturday, July 26: Queens & Staten Island
    • Queens: Vernon Blvd, from 44th Drive to 30th Drive — offering views along the Long Island City and Astoria waterfront
    • Staten Island: Forest Ave, from Broadway to Bard Ave — a brand-new Summer Streets route.
  • Saturdays, August 2, 9, 16: Manhattan
    • From the Brooklyn Bridge to Dyckman Street, along Lafayette Street and Park Avenue to 110th Street, across 110th to Broadway, and up to Dyckman Street.
    • A Harlem rest stop will activate Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd from 110th to 125th Street with performances, wellness activities, and local programming.
  • Saturday, August 23: The Bronx & Brooklyn
    • The Bronx: Grand Concourse, from East Tremont Ave to Mosholu Parkway — opening a key corridor through the West and North Bronx.
    • Brooklyn: Eastern Parkway, from Grand Army Plaza to Buffalo Ave — connecting Prospect Heights and Brownsville along the iconic Caribbean Day Parade route.

This year’s expanded programming includes exciting new events for New Yorkers to enjoy:

  • NYRR Start Line Series: In partnership with New York Road Runners (NYRR), the nonprofit that “runs” New York City, NYC DOT is launching a new initiative bringing free, beginner-level community run and walk events to Summer Streets. The series kicks off in Queens on July 26 and continues in Brooklyn on August 23. Both free events will include fun activities and games for kids of all ages. Registration is open.
  • Bike New York’s Together We Ride: On Saturday, August 2, NYC DOT will partner with Bike New York to launch Together We Ride -- the first-ever group ride along the Manhattan Summer Streets route from Foley Square to Inwood. This guided ride celebrates the benefits of open streets, promotes sustainable transportation, and showcases the vibrancy of New York City’s neighborhoods. Cyclists of all skill levels are welcome to participate at a relaxed, social pace. All registered riders will receive an official Together We Ride Summer Streets bib. Registration is free at BIKE.NYC.
  • Free Citi Bike Day Passes sponsored by Lyft: Available on event days with promo code LYFTSUMMER25 on the Citi Bike App.
  • Interactive Public Art: This year’s Summer Streets also showcases a bold lineup of public art installations, curated through an open call by NYC DOT Art, including the return of the NYC Art Stop Letters and two large-scale art installations along the route:
    • Mookntaka’s Friends and Follies inflatable sculptures will spark joy and spontaneous play in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, and on Staten Island.
    • Acrylicize’s Collective Bloom, an interactive sculpture that harnesses human energy to initiate change, will appear in Manhattan.
    • NYC Art Stop Letters return with fresh designs from illustrators Yuke Li and Tou Yia Xiong, on view at rest stops citywide.

Summer Streets is presented in partnership with WABC-TV, the event’s official media sponsor. Additional sponsors include: ALOHA Protein Bars, Brooklyn FC, C4 Performance Energy®, Chamber of Mothers, Coca-Cola, Grand Central Terminal®, MUSH, Remitly, RYZE, siggi’s, Stonyfield, and Yerba Madre.
