This portion of the FDR was last resurfaced in 2015

NEW YORK – New York City Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez announced the resurfacing of the FDR Drive from 96th to 125th streets during weeknight, overnight periods beginning on Tuesday, June 24, and lasting through the summer. The milling and repaving of the nearly 7.5 lane mile roadway (counting both directions) will be completed in approximately six five-night segments throughout the summer, with the goal to complete the paving for each portion by the end of each week. All work will begin at 11 P.M. each weeknight and conclude at 5 A.M. the next morning, with only one travel lane available during the milling/paving activity. The work, which will immediately follow recently announced resurfacing on the BQE in Brooklyn, is expected to be completed, weather permitting, in mid- August.

"The FDR is a well-used roadway getting New Yorkers to and from Uptown, Washington Heights/Inwood, and The Bronx," said NYC DOT Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez. "Its popularity brings a lot of wear and tear, and I am glad to announce that this summer, NYC DOT will be returning to repaving the roadway for the first time in a decade."

NYC DOT will first focus on milling and repaving in the northbound direction starting at 96th Street on Tuesday, June 24 at 11 P.M. and working until 5 A.M. with just one travel lane available. For the southbound direction, work is expected to begin in early August at 125th Street and progress in the southward direction. The anticipated FDR summer resurfacing schedule is as follows: (subject to change, with future updates to follow).

  • June 24, 2025 – June 27, 2025 (northbound)
  • July 14, 2025 – July 18, 2025 (northbound)
  • July 21, 2025 – July 25, 2025 (northbound)
  • July 28, 2025 – August 1, 2025 (southbound)
  • August 4, 2025 – August 8, 2025 (southbound)
  • August 11, 2025 – August 15, 2025 (southbound)

The focus on road resurfacing is a hallmark of the Adams administration. Earlier this year, Mayor Adams and NYC DOT announced a significant drop in the pothole complaints in the first three years of the administration from the first three years of the previous administration, the result of the Adams administration's sustained commitment to resurfacing an average of nearly 1,200 miles of lane miles in each fiscal year. The agency is also filling potholes at a record speed, with most potholes filled within two days.

NYC DOT will send out additional notification as the FDR work progresses.
