The City of New York’s Department of Transportation issued a traffic alert for this week providing the locations of road construction and events where lane and street closings will affect the flow of traffic. Lane closings may also occur due to circumstances beyond our control. Lane closings may also occur due to circumstances beyond our control. Major road, lane and street closings for the coming week are as follows:
Manhattan
Battery Park UnderpassAs of Sunday January 18th, through Friday February 13th, 2026, north-bound and south-bound Battery Park Underpass will be closed (not at the same time) from 10pm to 5am, to work on flood mitigation construction activities on Battery Park Underpass, as permitted by NYCDOT Bridges. Traffic will return to its original configuration after work hours.
Southbound Henry Hudson Parkway Exit Ramp to West 79th Street (Exit #10)This street will be fully closed Monday nights to Friday mornings from 10pm to 5am and Saturdays 12:01am to 7am from January 5th, 2026, to January 30th, 2026, for steel beam removal and replacement as permitted by NYCDOT Bridges. Motorists may exit southbound Henry Hudson Parkway at West 95th Street and follow the detour signs.
Northbound Henry Hudson Parkway (from George Washington Bridge to Dyckman Street)This street will be closed in either the northbound left or right lane weekdays from 10am to 2pm, nightly Monday nights to Friday mornings 10pm to 7am, 11pm Fridays to 3pm Saturdays, Saturday 11pm to Sunday 2pm to facilitate subsurface borings as permitted by the NYC Parks Department through January 31, 2026.
FDR Drive between Montgomery Street and East 15 StreetSingle-lane northbound and/or southbound will be closed Monday to Thursday from 10pm to 5am next morning, Saturday from 12:01am to 9am, and Sunday from 1am to 11am. Double-lane will be closed Tuesday to Friday from 1am to 5am, Saturday from 1am to 7am, and Sunday from 1am to 7am. These closures are necessary to facilitate median reconstruction and will continue through August 15, 2026.
FDR Drive between 96th Street and 125th StreetThe FDR will be fully closed in both directions on Saturday January 24, 2026, from 1am to 6:30am. These closures are necessary to facilitate the removal of 120th Street Pedestrian overpass bridge over the FDR as permitted by MTA Bridges and Tunnels. Traffic agents will be posted on critical intersections along the detour route.
FDR Drive Southbound between Jackson Street and Cherry StreetSingle-lane will be closed Friday from 11pm to 7am next morning, and Sunday from 11pm to 10am next morning. Double-lane will be closed Tuesday to Friday from 1am to 5am, Saturday from 1am to 6am, and Sunday from 1am to 7am. These closures are necessary to facilitate East Side Coastal Resiliency Project and will continue through September 11, 2026.
Manhattan/Bronx
University Heights Bridge over the Harlem River (207th Street)This bridge will be fully closed between 1am and 5am, early morning Monday December 29th and intermittently through Friday January 23rd, 2026. Traffic will return to its original configuration after work hours. Motorists are advised to use the Macomb’s Dam Bridge as alternative. This closure is necessary to conduct operational testing of the University Heights Bride (207th Street).
Bronx/Manhattan
Broadway Bridge over the Harlem RiverAs of Monday January 19th, 2026, to Friday January 30th, 2026, a single lane will be closed from 7am to 3pm, and a double lane will be closed in either direction from 10am to 2pm. These closures are in addition to the current Manhattan-bound right lane and adjacent sidewalk closures. At least one lane of traffic and the North-bound sidewalk will remain open at all times. These closures are necessary to continue structural steel repairs on the Broadway Bridge. As permitted by NYCDOT Bridges.
Bronx
University Heights Bridge over Harlem River (207th Street)As of Monday January 26th, 2026, and intermittently through Friday January 30th, 2026, a full bridge closure will take place from 1am to 5am early morning. Motorists are advised to use the Macomb’s Dam Bridge as an alternative. Traffic will return to its original configuration after work hours. This closure is necessary to facilitate continued operational testing of the University Heights Bridge (207th Street) over Harlem River as permitted by NYCDOT Bridges.
Cross Bronx Expressway (I-95) between Arthur Avenue and Clay AvenueSingle-lane will be closed in both directions Monday to Friday from 12:01am to 5am and double-lane will be closed from 1am to 5am, except holidays. These closures are to facilitate rehabilitation of the bridges overpassing Webster Avenue, Metro-North Railroad, and Third Avenue and will continue through December 14, 2026.
Brooklyn
Third Street Bridge over the Gowanus CanalAs of Monday January 12th, and intermittently through Friday January 30th, 2026, the bridge will be fully closed between 11pm to 5am Monday to Friday. The bridge will re-open after work hours. These closures are necessary for conducting repairs on the 3rd Street Bridge over Gowanus Canal.
5th Avenue Bridge over LIRR and Sea Beach (N) TrainBeginning Tuesday September 8, 2025, 24/7 for approximately 5 months this bridge will shift two-way traffic on 5th Avenue between 64th Street and 65th Street to the northbound side of the bridge to facilitate stage 1 of the rehabilitation of the 5th Avenue Bridge. Traffic Enforcement Agents (TEA’s) will be on site to assist with all movement of traffic. Both sidewalks and one travel lane in each direction will be maintained. Parking restrictions on the bridge will remain in place. Beginning Tuesday October 14, 2025, for approximately 4 months, NYCDOT Bridges will remove parking spaces on the east side of 5th Avenue between 66th Street and 65th Streets and one parking space at 65th Street under the Gowanus Expressway as part of the traffic pattern shift in connection with the 5th Avenue bridge reconstruction project.
Brooklyn/Queens
Metropolitan Avenue Bridge over Newtown CreekSingle lane will be closed in either direction (not at the same time) from 11pm to 5am Monday to Friday, January 20th to February 13th, 2026. At least one lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained at all times. Traffic will return to its normal configuration after work hours.
Greenpoint Avenue Bridge over Newton CreekA single lane will be closed on either Eastbound or Westbound direction (not at the same time) from 11pm to 5am Wednesday January 28th to Friday February 20th, 2026. During repairs, the bike lanes will be open on both directions. One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained at all times. Traffic will be restored to its original configuration after work hours. These closures are necessary for conducting continued repairs on Greenpoint Avenue Bridge, as permitted by NYCDOT Bridges.
Pulaski Bridge over Newtown CreekSingle lane will be closed in each direction northbound and southbound (not at the same time) will be closed weeknights from 11pm to 5am Tuesday January 20th, to Friday February 13th, 2026. At least one lane in each direction will be maintained at all times. Traffic will return to its original configuration after work hours. These closures are necessary to continue conducting maintenance on the Pulaski Bridge over Newtown Creek as permitted by NYCDOT Bridges.
Manhattan/Queens
Roosevelt Island Bridge over the East Channel of the East RiverAn Intermittent 15-minute full closure will take place on Wednesday January 21st and Wednesday January 28th, 2026, from 10am to 2pm. A second test may occur only after the first full test is concluded and any queued traffic has dissipated. Testing requires complete closure of the bridge to all vehicular and pedestrian traffic during lift. Bridge will reopen after work hours. This work is necessary to conduct routine monthly testing of the Roosevelt Island Bridge as permitted by NYCDOT Bridges.
Queens
130th Avenue Bridge over Belt ParkwayThe south sidewalk will be closed to pedestrians. The newly reconstructed north sidewalk of the bridge will be open. Lane closure on 130th Avenue will remain necessary Monday to Friday from 7am to 7pm, Saturday 8am to 6pm, Sunday from 9am to 6pm through January 30th, 2026. One lane in each direction will be maintained. Traffic lane will return to normal configuration after work hours.
Francis Lewis Boulevard Bridge over Belt ParkwayAs of Monday January 5th, to Friday January 30th, 2026, a single lane will be closed from 10am to 2pm daytime hours and 10pm to 5am nighttime hours, and two lanes will be closed from 1am to 5am. One lane in each direction will be maintained. The closures are necessary for the continued reconstruction of the Francis Lewis Boulevard Bridge over the Belt Parkway as permitted by NYCDOT Bridges.
Motor Parkway Bridge over Bell BoulevardAs of Friday January 2nd, through Friday January 30th, 2026, the following impacts will take place. At least one lane of travel will be maintained at all times. These closures are necessary for continuing the rehabilitation of Motor Parkway Bridge over Bell Boulevard.
- The Northbound and Southbound Bell Boulevard sidewalks will be closed 24/7 and pedestrians will follow a temporary walkway.
- Northbound and Southbound Bell Boulevard’s right parking lanes will be removed
- Northbound and Southbound Bell Boulevard alternating left or right travel lane closures are as follows:
- 9am to 2pm (when school is in session)
Single-lane eastbound will be closed Monday to Friday from 10am to 2pm, Monday to Thursday from 10pm to 5am next morning, Friday from 10pm to 7am next morning, Saturday from 10am to 3pm and from 10pm to 3pm next day. Double-lane eastbound will be closed Monday to Friday from 12:01am to 5am, Saturday from 1am to 6am, and Sunday from 1am to 9am. Single-lane westbound will be closed Monday to Friday from 10am to 3pm, Monday to Thursday from 10pm to 5am next morning, Friday from 10pm to 6am next morning, Saturday from 10am to 3pm and from 10pm to 3pm next day. Double-lane eastbound will be closed Monday to Friday from 12:01am to 5am, Saturday from 12:01am to 6am, and Sunday from 1am to 9am. These closures are necessary to facilitate Safety and Mobility Improvements and will continue through April 23, 2026.
Grand Central Parkway Eastbound between Roosevelt Avenue and 54 AvenueEastbound mainline will be closed for 15 minutes at a time, Monday to Friday from 12:01am to 5am, Saturday from 1am to 6am, and Sunday from 1am to 9am through April 23, 2026, to facilitate sign structure removal and installation. The mainline shoulder lane will be closed 24/7 along the project limit to replace sections with traversable curbs and guiderail.
Belmont Park Bridge over Cross Island ParkwayAs of Friday January 2nd, to Friday January 30th, 2026, an alternate single-lane closure in either the right or left lane will take place from 7am to 3:30pm and Northbound Cross Island Parkway right lane will be closed with lane shifts 24/7 for approximately 12 weeks. One 12-foot lane will remain open for two-way traffic, with flaggers at both ends of the work zone. These closures are necessary for continued repairs on the Belmont Park south Ramp over the Cross Island Parkway as permitted by NYCDOT Bridges.
Hillside Avenue Bridge over Cross Island ParkwaySingle-lane closures in either direction on the Cross Island Parkway will take place Monday January 5th to Friday January 30th, 2026, weekdays from 9am to 7pm Monday to Friday, and Weekends Saturday from 6am to 6pm, Sunday 9am to 6pm. At least one lane in each direction will be maintained at all times. Northern sidewalk will be open to pedestrians and southern sidewalk will be closed. Traffic will return to its original configuration after work hours. These closures are necessary to continue the rehabilitation of the southern half of Hillside Avenue Bridge as permitted by NYCDOT Bridges.
Springfield Boulevard Bridge over Belt Southern Parkway between North Conduit Avenue and South Conduit AvenueSingle-lane lanes will be closed in each direction Monday January 5th to January 30th, 2026, from 9am to 2pm Monday to Friday and from 10pm to 5am weeknights, for the continued rehabilitation of the eastern sidewalk of the Springfield Boulevard Bridge. One northbound lane will be maintained. One lane in each direction will be maintained. Traffic lanes will return to normal configuration after work hours. These closures are necessary for the continued rehabilitation of the Eastern sidewalk of the Springfield Boulevard Bridge over Belt Southern Parkway between North and South Conduit Avenues as permitted by NYCDOT Bridges.
Roosevelt Avenue BridgeOne northbound lane on the Van Wyck Expressway will be closed and a double lane closure from Northern Boulevard to Long Island Expressway will be closed Friday January 2nd, 2026, through Friday January 30th, 2026, from 11:59pm to 5am Southbound, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from 11pm to 5am Southbound, Friday from 11:59pm to 6am Southbound. In addition, two northbound and one southbound lane will remain open during these closures. These closures are necessary to facilitate steel repair work for Roosevelt Avenue Bridge.
Staten Island
Front Street/Murray Hubert Avenue between Thompson Street and Bay StreetThis street will be closed from 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday through March 20, 2026 for new Stapleton Waterfront Infrastructure.
