Scott Gastel, Assistant Commissioner for Press

Scott Gastel, the Assistant Commissioner for Press since March 2014, oversees DOT’s Press, Strategic Communications and Graphic Services offices. Mr. Gastel has worked at DOT since 2008, previously serving in the role of First Deputy Press Secretary. Prior to joining the agency, Mr. Gastel worked at NYC-based Sheinkopf Ltd., focusing on public affairs, government relations, print/radio ad creation, and campaign management for a diverse roster of local and national clients. Mr. Gastel previously served as Assistant Press Secretary to then-New York City Public Advocate Betsy Gotbaum and prior to that as Senior Advisor to New York City Council Member Vincent Gentile of Southwestern Brooklyn. Mr. Gastel also worked in the District of Columbia City Council and was a news aide at the Washington Post earlier in his career. Mr. Gastel holds a B.A. in Political Communication and a M.A. in Political Management, both from George Washington University.
