Good evening New Yorkers,
I hope you and your family had a lovely Labor Day Weekend. It was wonderful meeting some of you at a community garden in the Bronx, at Uzbekistan’s Independence Day celebration, at the West Indian Day Parade, and everywhere in between in the greatest city in the world. Here’s how we’ve been Getting Stuff Done for you: |

-
We had one of our safest Labor Day Weekends on record. Despite bustling crowds at parades, an international tennis championship, and an electronic music festival, the NYPD reported major crime was down and attendees were safer than last year.
-
We decreased carbon emissions by 36% in our public hospitals by making healthy plant-powered meals the default option.
-
As we kick off a new school year, our Department of Consumer and Worker Protection has an excellent guide for school supply shopping to help you stay savvy and save money all year.
-
The New York Public Library is keeping up the celebration of Hip-Hop 50 with limited edition library cards and curated playlists, featuring an array of artists from Ms. Lauryn Hill to Mac Miller.

Before you go, did you know… |
|
|
...you can see the stars for free through NYC Parks’ astronomy programs? Take inspiration from the 82-year-old Brooklynite who went viral online for sharing his telescope with his neighbors and helping them get a glimpse of Saturn and a blue moon. While NYC’s dazzling city lights hold so much beauty, there’s something special about gazing into the galaxy with your community.
