Good evening New Yorkers,
America’s safest big city has gotten even safer... again! Month after month, we're driving crime down above and below ground. In July alone, we brought down shootings by 20%, burglaries by 12%, transit crime by 20%, and overall crime by 4.2% — that’s six straight months of decreases in subway crime and seven straight months of decreases in overall crime. Here’s how else we've been delivering for you:

Creating thousands of jobs and housing units – Our plan to create 10,000 jobs, develop approximately 7,000 housing units, invest in vibrant public spaces, and expand access to transit in the Bronx was just approved! Led by the Department of City Planning, this initiative will build a more affordable, equitable Bronx and say “yes” to more housing in our backyards, communities, and neighborhoods.
Connecting homeless New Yorkers to housing – We celebrated a major milestone for the Street Homelessness Advocacy Project (SHAP), a volunteer outreach initiative that advocates for and offers services to New Yorkers experiencing homelessness. So far, SHAP’s work is paying off, with nearly 50% of homeless individuals connecting with SHAP choosing to come off our streets and move into supportive housing.

Taking down scaffolding – Through our “Get Sheds Down” program, we’ve already taken down 173 miles of unsightly scaffolding in the past year. This week, we partnered with Mastercard to show just how important this work is. The study found that scaffolding costs Manhattan businesses up to $9,500 each month, which is why we’ve taken steps to get these sheds down and are working with the City Council to bolster these efforts and keep our businesses booming.

New York City, if you enjoyed cheering on our outstanding Olympian New Yorkers in the Paris games these past few weeks, like gold medalists Lauren Scruggs and Sam Coffey, then make sure to tune in to the Paris 2024 Paralympics to cheer on six-time participant and New Yorker Tahl Leibovitz! He’ll be competing with Team USA in para table tennis. The games begin on August 28!
