Good evening New Yorkers,
I hope you and your loved ones have been beating the heat this week. Even during a hot and humid stretch like this one, our teams never stop working around the clock to deliver a safer, cleaner, and more affordable city for all. Here’s how we delivered for you this past week: |
- Ratting out more nasty rodents – We’re investing $877,000 in new rat-busting teams across the five boroughs! Our rat pack of experts will tackle the rodent populations in over 600,000 street tree beds citywide, which didn’t have dedicated rat mitigation or enforcement teams until now. This effort builds on our major wins in the “War on Rats” that have already led to six straight months of decreasing rat sightings citywide, and it’s all part of our commitment to making our streets even cleaner for all.
- Improving quality of life block by block – We just got the numbers, and after eight months of our “Operation Restore Roosevelt” multi-agency enforcement initiative in Queens, I’m proud to share that we’ve driven crime down along Roosevelt Avenue. Every New Yorker deserves to live in a neighborhood with clean streets, free of illegal activity. And thanks to our targeted outreach and strategic enforcement, crime on Roosevelt Avenue has dropped by over 28%.
- Helping tenants build generational wealth – We’re helping New Yorkers build credit and unlock the promise of homeownership with a new pilot program that will report affordable housing tenants’ on-time rental payments to major credit bureaus. This effort will help strengthen credit scores, double down on our status as the most pro-housing administration in New York City history, and make our city more affordable and accessible to more New Yorkers.

↳ Three things to know this week:
- Pools open for the summer TOMORROW, and we’re celebrating with a brand-new pool at the Harlem Meer! From 11 AM to 7 PM daily this season, go cool off at one of NYC Parks' convenient locations throughout the five boroughs. For an elevated experience, be sure to visit our “Cool Pools” with activities, poolside games, cabanas, and other fun amenities. And for New Yorkers 18 years or younger, remember that many of our pools serve free Summer Meals!
- Even though this week’s heat wave has peaked, it’s important to keep up with extreme weather emergencies all season long. Text “NOTIFYNYC” to 692-692 or sign up online to get local alerts sent to your phone! Our Emergency Management team will make sure you have exactly what you need to know when you need to know it.
- It's free outdoor movie season! Spend a night under the stars with friends and family, while enjoying fan-favorites at Bryant Park, Coney Island, and NYC parks all across the five boroughs. Bring a blanket, snacks, and your loved ones for this special city summer tradition.

Before you go, did you know… |
...New York City has some of the best tap water in the world and it’s tested hundreds of times every day? Thanks to the hard-working men and women at the NYC Department of Environmental Protection, our city is able to enjoy what some call the “champagne of municipal water”! On hot weeks like this, there’s no better beverage to stay hydrated than a crisp glass of NYC tap on the rocks. Check out my favorite NYC drink recipe next time you’re feeling hot on a summer day. It’s tasty AND it’ll help protect you from the heat.

New Yorkers, stay cool! Although the heat wave is passing, it’s important to know where to cool off all summer long. Check out these free Cool Options, like public indoor spaces, libraries, older adult centers, sprinklers in parks, pools, and more. And if you’re looking for fun in the sun, remember that our city has 13 miles of beautiful beaches!
