Good evening New Yorkers, This week, we unveiled our Fiscal Year 2025 Executive Budget, where our strong fiscal management has allowed us to make the critical investments in the initiatives that will continue to support working-class families and make the greatest city in the world even greater.
From putting more police officers on our streets to protecting educational programs and increasing access to early childhood education to providing support for thousands of cultural institutions, this budget boosts programs that improve the quality of life for working families.
Our city also won big in the state budget after months of advocacy with wins giving us the tools to build the affordable housing that New Yorkers need and deserve, regulatory authority to finally close down illegal smoke shops plaguing our streets, a two-year extension on mayoral accountability to keep supporting our students, as well as key wins to stop retail theft and protect New Yorkers from traffic violence through Sammy’s Law.
Here's how else we delivered for you this week: |

Ensuring public safety protects the entire public – Not only are we investing in 1,200 new NYPD recruits to make America’s safest large city even safer, but we’re also investing in inclusionary initiatives, like American Sign Language training, to ensure officers can communicate with all of our communities.
Committing to a greener city – We're taking concrete action to reduce NYC’s carbon emissions through a cross-sector partnership for leading national and New York City-based institutions to promote plant-powered foods and reduce food-related carbon emissions. Twenty percent of our city’s overall emissions come from food consumption and production, and this shift towards more plants on plates will significantly decrease our carbon footprint.
-
Funding our children’s futures – We secured $500 million to protect critical education and child care programs that were previously funded with temporary federal stimulus dollars. We’ll use these funds to boost enrollment in 3-K and pre-K, support special needs students, make it easier for families to access subsidized child care, and more.
Committing to our cultural institutions – We invested $22 million to help our vital cultural sector thrive by supporting more than 1,000 non-profits across our city. These include our world-class museums, theaters, community programs, and more.
