Good evening New Yorkers,
You may have seen that I was in our nation’s capital yesterday testifying before Congress with other big city mayors about how we can stay true to our immigrant roots while still keeping our city safe. And during the testimony, I highlighted our administration’s strong record of decreasing crime, breaking the city’s all-time jobs record, and more — all while managing an international humanitarian crisis that was dropped on our doorstep.
Every week, we work towards making New York City the best place to raise a family. That means making our streets safer, improving quality of life, and making our city more affordable at every level.
I’m also proud to share with you that, once again, we’ve driven down crime to HISTORIC LOWS. Most significantly, we just shattered a 30-year record with the FEWEST number of shooting incidents ever recorded in any January and February combined. We also achieved DOUBLE DIGIT decreases in overall major crimes on our streets and in our subways AGAIN this past month.
Here’s how else we delivered for you this past week: |

- Improving safety near Washington Square Park – We launched a multi-agency coalition of law enforcement, elected officials, and local community and business leaders to address quality-of-life issues in the Village, around Washington Square Park. The “Village Interagency Task Force” will work to keep this vibrant neighborhood the dynamic and welcoming destination it deserves to be, while improving safety and cleanliness on its iconic streets and public spaces.
- Empowering NYC's fathers – We're doubling the size of our “Fatherhood Initiative” with a $7 million investment to help more New York City fathers strengthen connections with their children, provide financial assistance, and develop healthy parenting strategies. This program not only exemplifies our administration’s commitment to making this the best city to raise a family, but it will also help reduce the number of children entering the criminal justice system.
- Supporting medically-vulnerable New Yorkers – We’re expanding our medical respite bed program that provides critical services not available in shelters to medically-vulnerable New Yorkers experiencing homelessness, and providing intensive housing case management for them as well. This program is at the intersection of our administration’s most powerful work, ensuring New Yorkers are safe, healthy, and on a pathway to stable and affordable housing.

↳ Three things to know this week:
|
|
|
- Our popular Summer Rising program is back and we’re now accepting applications for this summer! This free academic enrichment program is available to all NYC students in grades K-8. All summer long, participants can enjoy educational and social activities, with free meals and snacks. Apply now!
- You can now get half-priced subway and bus rides on OMNY! Our Fair Fares transit discount program was already available to more than half a million low-income New Yorkers, and now it’s available on convenient tap-to-pay OMNY cards. Additionally, all New Yorkers, ages 65+, are eligible for the MTA’s Reduced-Fare cards that provide older adults with 50% off fares.
- The NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene has a walk-in vaccine clinic that provides low-cost and no-cost immunizations to New Yorkers, regardless of immigration status. They offer a large variety of vaccines, including measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR), COVID-19, and flu vaccines.

Before you go, did you know… |
|
|
...a "Made in NY” film just won a “Best Picture” Oscar for the first time in 10 years? Not only did “Best Picture” winner Anora put our city on the big screen, showcasing neighborhoods like Brooklyn’s Brighton Beach and Coney Island, but 48 other awards were also received by “Made in NY” productions during the 2025 TV and film award show season! Our city’s film and TV industry supports 185,000 New York City jobs, and I want to congratulate all of the New Yorkers whose work was nominated this season — you make your city so proud.
