Good evening New Yorkers,
This week was all about getting even more New Yorkers connected to good-paying jobs, investing in employment opportunities, and launching initiatives that will make New York City more affordable and the best place to raise a family. Building off last week’s exciting announcement that we broke the all-time high number of jobs in NYC for the EIGHTH time since coming into office, here’s how we delivered for you during our “Jobs Week”:

|
- Reimagining commercial office space – We unveiled our “Race for Space” initiative, a comprehensive strategy to revitalize and reimagine vacant office space across the five boroughs. By rolling out several programs, including incentivizing out-of-state companies to move to New York City and supporting growth stage companies’ international expansions, we’re helping create thousands of good-paying jobs here in the five boroughs, attracting the best talent, and filling NYC’s vacant office space all at once.
- Saving money for small businesses – We celebrated a major milestone in helping our city’s record-breaking 183,000 small businesses save over $50 million in fees and fines! Small businesses serve as the economic engine of our city, and I’m so proud of this administration for delivering again and again for our local businesses as they put more and more New Yorkers to work. If you or a loved one is a small business owner, check out all the free resources we offer to support our local enterprises.
- Creating opportunities for every neighborhood – We're expanding our “Jobs NYC” program that brings employment opportunities and trainings directly to economically-disadvantaged communities across our city. Through in-person hiring hall events and community partnerships, we’ve made sure opportunities reach all New Yorkers. This new $2 million program expansion will help uplift even more New Yorkers most in need in the months and years to come.

Crime is down, and jobs are up! This past January had the fewest shooting incidents of any January in recorded history in NYC. We also continued to drive down major crimes on our streets and underground BY DOUBLE DIGITS, including a 17% decrease in major crime above ground and a 36% decline in subway crime below ground compared to January 2024. We know there’s still more work to do, but thank you to the brave men and women of our NYPD for protecting our city every single day.

Before you go, did you know… |

...America's longest-standing, continuously inhabited free Black settlement is located on Staten Island? Sandy Ground was founded in the early 1800s, when New York abolished slavery and freedmen in the oyster trade moved in from Delaware, Maryland, and other parts of New York. Because of their work in the oyster trade, the community was able to thrive and became a key destination along the Underground Railroad. Ten families still reside at Sandy Ground, who are descendants of the community’s initial settlers.
During this Black History Month, I encourage all New Yorkers to explore our city's rich Black history in our public parks and all around the city. There is so much to learn from what’s right in our backyard. 🗽 🗽 🗽 |
