Good afternoon New Yorkers, Last week may have been all about how we make our city more affordable, but this week marked our administration's “Public Safety Week,” where we advanced bold plans to keep New York the safest big city in America and make sure people both are safe and feel safe on our streets and in our subways.
From improving historically dangerous blocks to getting untraceable, illegal vehicles off our streets, here’s how we delivered a safer city for you this week: |
|
|
- Getting “ghost cars” off our streets – We announced that we have seized over 73,000 illegal, untraceable “ghost cars” and illegal and unregistered motorized scooters, bikes, and ATVs since the start of our administration — and over 34,500 this year alone. Illegal vehicles not only deprive our city of millions of dollars in tolls and fees but have increasingly been used in violent crimes. If you’re driving an illegal, unregistered, or otherwise untraceable vehicle, we’re coming for them as we keep our streets safe.
- Protecting New Yorkers, block by block – Every New Yorker deserves to live in a safe neighborhood, so we’re using a data-driven approach to deliver intensive, multi-agency support to high-crime areas. Our “Every Block Counts” pilot program identifies specific blocks with historically high levels of shootings, crime, and quality-of-life issues and helps bring crucial resources from across the city to respond to residents' needs and create a safer, cleaner, more livable community for all.
- Uplifting successful safety strategies – We were proud to release a report detailing our administration’s success with community-driven public safety strategies that address public safety and quality-of-life concerns in every neighborhood. Since coming into office, we've taken over 19,000 guns off our streets, shut down over 1,300 illegal cannabis shops, seized over 73,000 illegal “ghost cars,” and so much more. Because of these successful administration-wide efforts, we’ve seen major crime drop and continue to make our city safer and more livable for all.

...you can find the most expensive dinosaur in the world right here in NYC? After being auctioned for a record-breaking $44.6 million, this 150-million-year-old stegosaurus fossil is now on display at the Natural History Museum for all to see! Discovered in Colorado in 2022, the 254-piece skeleton is 27 feet long and 11.5 feet tall. Despite its large size, this dinosaur had a brain the size of a lime when it was alive hundreds of millions of years ago.
Don’t forget: New Yorkers can visit the museum with pay-what-you-wish ticket pricing! Check out the exhibits here and plan your visit. 🚂 🚂 🚂 |
