- Creating new affordable housing – We opened a new deeply affordable housing development in the Bronx, marking the creation of nearly 400 deeply affordable homes for New Yorkers in shelter since beginning the Affordable Housing Services initiative earlier this year. A home is the key to unlocking the American Dream and a pathway to the middle class, and getting New Yorkers off our streets and into housing brings them one step closer to that dream.
- Getting foster youth into permanent housing – We announced a major milestone: connecting 100 young New Yorkers leaving foster care with permanent, affordable housing. In partnership with a local nonprofit, this program helps get these young people into housing, through age 26, and ensures they have a fair shot at building a better future for themselves.
- Turning holiday trees into sustainable mulch – We're closing out the holiday season by helping New Yorkers easily and sustainably recycle their trees for free! NYC Parks’ Mulchfest transforms New Yorkers’ holiday trees into mulch. Now through January 12, you can head to one of 75 sites across the five boroughs to drop off your tree. You can even go on the weekend of January 11 to watch your tree get chipped live and take it home as mulch. Find a Mulchfest location near you!
