I know the holidays and new year may be on your mind, but I wanted to quickly share how we’re making the most of these final weeks of 2023 to make 2024 our best year yet! Here's how we delivered for you this past week:
Celebrating street safety improvements – From making a dangerous Queens intersection safer for pedestrians to opening an upgraded protected bike lane along a busy stretch in Manhattan, we’re making streets safer for all on the road: pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers.
Breaking ground on 880 affordable homes – We announced NYC’s largest 100% affordable housing project in 40 years. Not only will this project help New Yorkers access housing within their budget, but it will also create thousands of jobs and generate $6.1 billion in economic impact over 30 years.
↳ Three things to know this week:
The FDNY sees an increase in fires during the winter, so they partnered with the American Red Cross to give away free home smoke alarms. If you don’t have a working smoke alarm, please get one to protect you and your neighbors in a fire.
This is your second to last weekend to take a Holiday Nostalgia Ride on a 1930s subway! For the regular $2.90 fare, hop on the F or D train at the select times to embark on a time traveling transit journey.

Before you go, did you know…
...there's a city government surplus store? From vintage typewriters to modern-day coffee makers, the Department of Citywide Administrative Services auctions a variety of items for which the city no longer has use. If you’ve ever wanted a piece of NYC government in your home, like your very own manila inter-office envelopes or cushioned leather seats, this is your chance.

I hope you have a great weekend, New Yorkers. For those celebrating next week, I wish you a merry Christmas and a happy Kwanzaa. May your days be bright and filled with joy, togetherness, and peace.
