Good evening New Yorkers,
Between a festive Halloweekend and the inspiring New York City Marathon, it felt like the whole city was out and about last weekend. Keeping our streets safe on these special occasions are the brave men and women of the NYPD, who continue to drive New York City’s crime down to historic lows month after month, quarter after quarter.
Over the first 10 months of 2025, we’ve had the FEWEST number of shootings and shootings victims in recorded history, as well as the FEWEST number of shootings or shooting victims for any month of October in recorded history. We also set the record for the SAFEST October on our subways in recorded history and had the lowest number of homicides EVER in one month.
Since day one, your safety has been our administration’s top priority, and we're proud to deliver a safer and more affordable city for you every day. Here’s how else we delivered for you and your loved ones this week: |

- Adding 5,000 more NYPD officers – We increased NYPD funding to add 5,000 more uniformed officers over the next three years, increasing the total headcount to 40,000 by Fiscal Year 2029 — the highest level in 20 years. From the start, our administration has been guided by the belief that public safety is the prerequisite to prosperity, and this is how we make our streets and subways even safer for NYC's families as we continue to drive crime down to record lows.
- Ensuring New Yorkers have food on the table – Nearly 1.8 million New Yorkers who rely on the SNAP program to feed their families will receive only partial benefits this month due to the ongoing federal government shutdown. To support our neighbors in this critical time of need, we announced a slate of public-private initiatives to work with partners across the city and help our most vulnerable New Yorkers keep food on the table. If you or someone you know has been affected, use NYC’s free food help map to find no-cost pantries and soup kitchens near you.
- Breaking ground on green infrastructure – Our NYC Department of Environmental Protection broke ground on an innovative new public plaza that will collect 1 million gallons of rainwater per year. The "Gateway to Greenpoint" project will reduce street flooding by equipping the new open space with underground stormwater storage chambers that capture rainwater to be eventually absorbed into the ground. Check out this simple diagram to see how it all works!

↳ Three things to know this week:
|
|
|
- Want to earn extra money this winter? Become a temporary Emergency Snow Shoveler! For the 2025-2026 season, you’d make $19.14/hour to start, and $28.71/hour after 40 hours worked in a week. When our next snowstorm hits, you’ll join our Department of Sanitation to help clear ice and snow throughout NYC. Register here now.
- Our city offers free financial counseling for New Yorkers at our NYC Financial Empowerment Centers. Their one-on-one services include budget coaching, assistance with opening a bank account, loan repayment strategy, and more! You can make an appointment online here.
- You can get half-fare subway and bus rides by enrolling in NYC's Fair Fares program! This city program helps reduce transportation costs for low-income New Yorkers, and many New Yorkers may not know they qualify. Check your eligibility and apply!

...we're a step closer to the most magical time of the year in NYC? This year's iconic Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree has been chosen! The 75-year-old Norway Spruce is coming from upstate New York and will arrive at Rockefeller Center this Saturday, November 8th. For almost a century, the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree has brought New Yorkers together and spread holiday cheer across our city, attracting visitors from around the world and the five boroughs alike. This year, the tree will be wrapped with a whopping five miles of energy-efficient LED string lights and topped with a 900-pound Swarovski star!
The official tree lighting will take place on December 3rd, and in January, once the holidays are over, the tree will be recycled into lumber for Habitat for Humanity. 🎄 🎄 🎄 |
