Good evening New Yorkers, I hope you’ve been staying warm and safe on yet another chilly week. No matter what, rain or shine, snowy day or heat wave, we never stop working to make this a safer, more affordable city for you and make New York the best place to raise a family. Here’s how we delivered for you this week: |
- Keeping our streets and subways safe – Since coming into office, we’ve taken more than 20,000 illegal firearms off our streets and driven down shootings by more than 42 percent. These gun seizures have also dramatically reduced homicides, saved lives, and helped drive down overall crime across the five boroughs. Every day, you see our officers on the streets protecting our city, and now you’ll see more of them on the subway since we just surged 300 more NYPD officers on overnight trains. Fewer guns and more police on our streets and subways are how we make NYC even safer and ensure it’s the best place to raise your family.
- Supporting SNAP theft victims – To date, we’ve connected almost 95,000 victims of SNAP and Cash Assistance benefits fraud with nearly $48 million in replacement funds. Benefits theft is a national issue, and I’m proud of our work in NYC to lead the way on getting families their replacement money for food and daily necessities that were cruelly stolen from them. If your benefits were stolen before December 20, 2024, you can submit a claim here.
- Improving New Yorkers’ quality-of-life – When our communities speak, we listen. When launching “Operation Restore Roosevelt” in October, we incorporated New Yorkers’ feedback into addressing safety and quality-of-life concerns in Queens. This multi-agency operation has already made significant progress since then to make streets safer, get illegal vehicles and ATVs off the roads, close illicit smoke shops, engage New Yorkers experiencing homelessness, and more. Our work on Roosevelt Avenue is our “Community Link” initiative’s latest success story, as we improve communities across NYC!
