Good afternoon New Yorkers, This week, we continue to advocate for you, your family, and our incredible city, as we unveiled our preliminary budget for the coming fiscal year. The investments we’re making today to make our city safer, more affordable, and more livable will make sure New York City is the best place to raise a family.
Here’s how we delivered for you this week: |
|
|
- Investing in our families and futures – We unveiled our Fiscal Year 2026 Preliminary Budget to keep our subways and streets safe, bring tax relief to working-class New Yorkers, provide our children with a world-class education, support more affordable housing, put money back in your pockets, and so much more. This budget deepens our administration's commitment to making New York City the best place to raise a family and invests in a safer, more affordable city.
- Supporting our most vulnerable New Yorkers – Our administration is taking unprecedented action to tackle homelessness and invest $650 million in care and housing for unhoused New Yorkers, including those with serious mental illness. We will add 900 more Safe Haven beds, open an innovative home-like facility to treat New Yorkers with serious mental illness, and connect soon-to-be parents with permanent housing.
- Wiping out New Yorkers’ medical debt – We’re delivering on a 2024 State of the City promise and eliminating $2 BILLION in medical debt for up to 500,000 New Yorkers! Our initiative is America’s largest municipal medical debt relief program, and 35,000 people will begin receiving letters in the mail this week as we wipe out $80 million in the next few days alone. Medical debt is a real stressor, and working-class families shouldn’t have to choose between paying bills or paying rent. This program will help immensely for those who need it most.

New Yorkers, let's not treat this coming Monday as a day off, but as a day of action. As we celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., let’s all reflect on how we can recommit to Dr. King’s vision and continue his march towards justice.
If you’d like to give back to our communities on Monday, NYC Parks is hosting a “Day of Service” with volunteer opportunities around the five boroughs to help keep our parks clean and green. Your mayor, Eric
