🌿🌱 Now here’s a peek into Earth Week 🌱🌿 |
There’s no need to be green with envy this Earth Week because we’ve rounded up the top three things to know and do on Earth Day tomorrow, from major policy commitments to how you can celebrate our planet here in NYC. |
-
Mission to Cut Food Emission – Food is NYC’s third biggest source of greenhouse gas emissions, behind transportation and buildings. We pledged to reduce food emissions by 33% by 2030, and one way we’ll get it done is by serving plant-based meals in schools and hospitals. We also challenged the private sector to cut their food emissions by 25%.
-
Powering Up Solar Schools – We turned on our city’s largest solar panel array on the Frank J. Macchiarola Educational Complex in Sheepshead Bay. It’ll provide 60% of the schools’ energy needs – preventing pollution, protecting students from asthma and other diseases, and saving money.
-
Getting Sustainability Done – We’re making a clean, green future attainable for all. Some of our commitments include protecting infrastructure, enhancing coastal resiliency, preparing young people for jobs in the green economy, helping working families get solar panels, reducing waste, improving air quality in high pollution neighborhoods, and more.

Volunteer with NYC Parks – Tomorrow (4/22), I’m spending my Earth Day planting trees in Queens, and I could not recommend it more! It’s greatly appreciated by your neighbors and the planet. Here’s a map with events across NYC to plant seeds, clean up, compost, and more.
-
Voyage an Open Street Near You – We're closing off some streets to cars on Earth Day tomorrow so pedestrians can enjoy the open road all day long. Find one near you here.
-
Venture Into the Great Outdoors – Getting outside when you can is good for you. Our five boroughs have excellent green spaces and parks. Go explore a new one! Use this easy locator to discover a park by you.

Before you go, did you know… |
There’s an interactive map of every single tree individually managed by NYC Parks? That’s 868,741 trees! You can share trees with friends and learn about trees in your neighborhood. Access it here and enjoy!

Have a great Earth Day tomorrow, New York! Take advantage of the fresh air and lovely springtime flowers if you can. Your Mayor, Eric P.S. Remember you can always directly send me a question through this form. I look forward to hearing from you. |
