New Yorkers, hello from City Hall!
Every day, everywhere, we continue to deliver for you. Thanks to the tireless efforts of over 300,000 public servants, we’re making sure that the “City That Never Sleeps” is safer, more affordable, and the best place to raise a family. This week, we doubled down on our efforts to improve quality of life and get New Yorkers living with severe mental illness or suffering from drug addiction the help they need. Through our “End the Culture of Anything Goes” campaign, we took action to:
- Connect homeless New Yorkers with housing – We've made significant progress getting thousands of homeless New Yorkers off our streets and subways, into permanent housing, and on paths to brighter futures. Our administration wouldn't allow a culture of "anything goes" to continue on our streets. Instead, we're getting people the help they need and making key investments to humanely address the health crises playing out on city streets.
- Support New Yorkers with substance use disorder – We introduced a proposal for the upcoming state legislative session that would give clinical professionals the tools they need to bring someone to a hospital and allow a judge to mandate treatment if they appear to be a danger to themselves or others due to substance use disorder. This would put us in line with 37 other states and continue our work to support our fellow New Yorkers in clear need of help.
- Expand the city’s network of “clubhouses” – New Yorkers with serious mental illness deserve real, lasting care to help them thrive, so we announced 13 new "clubhouses" across the five boroughs where adults with serious mental illness can find community, treatment, and support. The $30 million investment expands on the success of the clubhouse model and furthers our dedication to improving public safety and quality of life by taking care of New Yorkers in need.
