The 2015 New York City Summer Youth Employment
Program Applications Are Now Available!

The New York City Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) is open to all
NYC residents between the ages of 14-24. The deadline to submit applications
is April 10, 2015.

Summer Youth Employment Program

SYEP provides New York City youth between the ages of 14 and 24 with paid summer employment for up to six weeks in July and August. Participants work in a variety of entry-level jobs including:

Government Agencies • Hospitals • Summer Camps
Non-Profits • Small Businesses • Law Firms
Museums • Sports Enterprises • Retail Organizations

SYEP also provides workshops on job readiness, career exploration, financial literacy and opportunities to continue education and social growth. To learn more click here. For online application, click here.

Leading By Giving Committee of The We Are All Brooklyn Fellowship Offers Grants to Community-Based Organizations and Community Members

The 2014-2015 Leading By Giving Committee will award grants of up to $2,000 to Brooklyn-based projects that address mental health issues affecting youth.

The We Are All Brooklyn (WAAB) Fellowship, established in 2008, provides non-profit, community, and faith leaders with opportunities to network, as well as training in leadership development and community building. The WAAB Fellowship represents a diverse group of professionals working to strengthen Brooklyn through partnership, understanding and capacity-building. The 2014-2015 Leading By Giving Committee was created to provide funding to a Brooklyn-based individual or organization that shares WAAB’s mission. Apply here.


YouthBridge-NY Bridging the Gap Grant

The YouthBridge-NY youth-led grant committee is accepting applications from organizations working in Women’s Issues, Sexual Health, and/or After School Programming for grants up to $2000. One Queens Grant

This award is open to eligible Queens-based organizations.
Applications are due Friday, April 24, 2015.

This award (of up to $5,000) is open to eligible Queens-based organizations with projects focused on empowering young adults (ages 14-25) in the areas of financial literacy, job readiness, STEAM education (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) and entrepreneurship. 2015 ASIAN-PACIFIC AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH Celebration Event Grant Program

Deadline for the Grant Application: Monday, April 6, 2015

In celebration of the Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month (May), Korean Cultural Service NY offers a celebration event grant to selected hosting institutions and/or to Korean traditional performing arts groups and artists. Eligible applicants for the grant fall into two categories: One is for American public institutions that planon hosting APAHM celebration events/festivals in May and wish to include in their program a Korean traditional performance. Public institutions mean government agencies at federal, state, city, county and town levels, K—12 public schools, universities and non-profit organizations in NY, NJ, CT, PA or other states in NY proximity. The second category is for Korean traditional performing arts groups and artists that have been invited to perform at APAHM celebration events hosted by such American public institutions! Harlem Youth Court Application

The Harlem Youth Court is now accepting applications for their next cohort. Youth ages 14—18 years old who reside in New York City can apply to become Youth Court Members. Application Deadline: Monday, March 31, 2015

Youth Court members participate in an informative and fun eight week summer training program where they learn about restorative justice and how the justice system in NYC works. Teens learn to perform the functions of the Youth Court by practicing the roles of judges, jurors, community advocate, and youth advocate. Once trained, Youth Court members will hear actual low-level juvenile delinquency matters referred from courts, prosecutors, and schools.

When Dating Feels Dangerous: Addressing Intimate
Partner Violence in Teens (for DYCD Middle School Providers)

Workshop Date: Wednesday, April 15, 2015 10am—1pm

This workshop is intended for program directors, managers, and seasoned staff who work with middle school students and other adolescents. How do you ensure that your program is promoting and supporting healthy teen relationships? Supporting teens to better understand healthy intimate relationships is vital to their development but isn't always easy to know how to do. This skill-building workshop, hosted by hosted by DYCD and the Mental Health Association of New York City, will increase awareness of Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) in teen relationships by helping youth development professionals spot warning signs, understand different types of abuse, and assist youth in overcoming obstacles to getting help. Participants will discuss their concerns and community resources will be shared. To register click here.

DYCD and the Mental Health Association of New York City Host a Workshop: Serving LGBTQ Youth: Beyond the Basics

Workshop Date: Wednesday, April 29, 1015 10am—1pm

We will move beyond the basics of working with LGBTQ youth and explore such topics as the stages of coming out, how homophobia and transphobia hurt all youth, and becoming a strong transgender/transqueer ally. We will draw on case studies, video, and role play and you will have the opportunity to practice conversations and build skills for engaging LGBTQ youth and their families. Time will be allotted to discuss real-life scenarios and challenges; please bring examples from your work or youth situations that have you stumped. To register for event click here.
