For Properties with 10 to 30 Residential Units in Manhattan Community District 9
Starting June 1, 2025, Manhattan Community District 9 (M9) in West Harlem (Morningside Heights, Manhattanville, and Hamilton Heights) will become the first NYC Community District to containerize 100% of its trash. Moving trash off the streets and into secure bins looks better, smells better, and sends the rats packing.
Properties with 10 to 30 residential units are eligible to apply for Empire Bins – DSNY-managed on-street containers for the storage and collection of trash.
- If you are choosing Empire Bins, you MUST fill out and submit an Empire Bin Opt-In form by January 31, 2025.
- If you own or manage multiple properties, you must complete a SEPARATE opt-in form for EACH PROPERTY.
NOTE: If you do not opt in, you MUST containerize your trash using individual bins that are 55 gallons or less, with secure lids, by June 1, 2025. Official NYC Bins are available for purchase at www.bins.nyc (home delivery) or at Home Depot stores in NYC (pick up only – check website for availability).
