Civic Spotlight: Korean Community Services
This month's Civic Spotlight celebrates Korean Community Services (KCS), a valued CEC partner and longtime nonprofit dedicated to supporting New Yorkers across generations and communities. In recognition of NYC Nonprofit Week, CEC Chair and Executive Director Sarah Sayeed and Director of Voter Language Assistance Anila Cobo recently visited KCS and presented the organization with a certificate honoring its longstanding contributions to New York City.
For many years, KCS has offered a wide range of programs and services that promote civic participation, youth and adult education, community well-being, and more. With a multigenerational workforce and deep connections to communities across the city, KCS serves New Yorkers from diverse backgrounds, extending its impact beyond the Korean community.
KCS has also been a valued partner of the CEC on several initiatives. The organization has led in-language voter education workshops through our Voter Language Assistance Program, hosted Idea Generation Workshops for The People's Money, helped get out the vote, and is currently implementing "Empowered with Opportunity," one of last year's winning projects from participatory budgeting. This program supports people who are unemployed with skills and knowledge to apply for jobs, conduct an interview, and utilize professional social networking platforms.
We're proud to partner with KCS and grateful for its continued work connecting New Yorkers with resources, opportunities, and meaningful ways to participate in civic life.
Advancing racial equity across NYC
We are thrilled to announce that Mayor Mamdani and the Mayor's Office of Equity and Racial Justice (MOERJ) have officially released the 2026 New York City Racial Equity Plan. The plan includes 45 individual agency Racial Equity Plans, including the CEC's, as well as the City's first set of eight citywide goals to advance racial equity across New York City.
We look forward to working closely with MOERJ and our assigned Equity Planning Managers to move the plan forward and identify the next steps for implementation.
