The TRIE Neighborhood Initiative Celebration at Pier 57!

On August 8, we hosted the TRIE Neighborhood Initiative Celebration at Pier 57, where we celebrated this year's TRIE partners. From a screenprinting station where partners could make their very own TRIE tote or tee to live CEC button-making to delicious food and music, we wanted to create a joyful space for us and our partners to come together and celebrate all the hard work they've done this year.

Our Chair and Executive Director Dr. Sarah Sayeed, as well as James Strafford from YMI Speaks and Sideya Sherman, New York City's Chief Equity Officer, gave remarks about the importance and impact of the TRIE coalition. Finally, we had an Awards Ceremony where stand-out organizations received Sunny Awards.

This collage of three photos shows attendees of the CEC's TRIE celebration event, including people posing in front of a yellow backdrop with the CEC logo and sitting watching Dr. Sarah Sayeed give remarks at a podium.

Two paid opportunities to partner with the CEC!

We have two open opportunities for community-based organizations and groups to help shape civic life in their neighborhoods.

  1. The People's Money: Project Implementation Partners:  Bring winning participatory budgeting projects to life with training, support, and collaboration opportunities! This is a funding opportunity for $150k – $200k for community-based organizations to implement projects selected by NYC residents — turning community priorities into real-world impact. You would be a great fit if your organization is:

✅ Located in or serving TRIE neighborhoods

    ✅ Committed to equity & community-driven change

✅ Open to collaborating with local partners

✅ Equipped to deliver meaningful, community-prioritized projects

✅ Ready to participate in evaluation and a 13-session capacity-building workshop series

✅ Dedicated to transparent, responsible reporting

  1. The People's Money: Designed by Community (DxC) Pilot: Fellowship and project funding to co-design and implement a community-led project with resident fellows! We're looking for a community-based organization to:

    ✅ Host a 10-month community-centered fellowship

✅ Implement the Youth Entrepreneurship Project, a winning project from The People's Money

The People's Money Partners Recognition Event!

On August 14, we hosted a PB Partners Recognition Event at El Museo del Barrio to celebrate the organizations that made The People's Money as successful as it was this year. We brought back our button making station from the previous week's TRIE celebration, had a collage station full of art supplies, a DJ, and a delicious breakfast buffet.

Sarah Sayeed, Wendy Trull, and Hillary Carelli-Donnell from the CEC all gave remarks expressing their gratitude for our partners' work, which was followed by another Sunny Awards Ceremony where organizations were recognized for various achievements, from "Rookie of the Year" to who got the most digital votes in The People's Money this year.

These two photos show event attendees and CEC staff posing in front of a green backdrop with the CEC and People's Money logo.

What's In Your Borough? Learn About The People's Money Projects Being Implemented on our YouTube Channel!

Our "What's in Your Borough?" YouTube series is here!

We followed 19 inspiring, community-led projects — each funded by The People's Money — to see how New Yorkers are transforming their neighborhoods. From food pantries and gardening programs to wellness workshops and youth support, this series highlights real solutions created by and for the community.

The series provides a glimpse into the implementation of last year's winning projects from The People's Money — hear directly from the people behind the organizations that have worked tirelessly to bring these projects to life, as well as from participants, who share the impact the projects have had on their lives.

Two new episodes drop every week through the beginning of September, and you can find them on our YouTube channel @nyccec!

The People's Money Partner Spotlight: United Activities Unlimited

United Activities Unlimited (UAU) is implementing the Building Success for High School Students People's Money project in the Staten Island neighborhoods of St. George, Stapleton, Port Richmond, Tompkinsville, West Brighton, and Mariner's Harbor.

In July, UAU hosted three re-occurring workshops: "Conflict Resolution" workshops, which taught students effective communication skills and methodologies for resolving various types of conflict;"Money Skills and Banking" workshops, hosted in collaboration with Chase Bank, which educated students about different methods for managing and saving their money; and "Creativity and Innovation" workshops, which helped students to learn why creativity and innovation are important in many different career fields, and encouraged them to apply creative thinking skills in a variety of scenarios.

UAU also took students on a trip to Liberty Science Center in July! The goal of the trip was for students to gain a better understanding of the contributions of science to the world, and how creativity and innovation play a role in many discoveries. In addition to exploring the different exhibits to think about this, students visited a special exhibit about the Titanic and saw a show in the planetarium.

From left to right, these photos show a group of youths posing in front of a Liberty Science Center backdrop, then the youth on a rooftop looking at the New York City skyline.
