Dear Fellow New Yorker, On Monday, Mayor Eric Adams hosted a vigil in Brooklyn honoring the victims of this past weekend’s nightclub shooting. The Mayor met with community members and Cure Violence groups who continue to support families and neighbors impacted by this tragedy.
Earlier that day, the Mayor traveled to Staten Island, where he was joined by Commissioner Jessica Tisch to announce the expansion of the Q Teams. These teams are dedicated to addressing quality-of-life issues across the borough. As the Mayor emphasized, “If it wouldn’t fly outside City Hall, it won’t fly in Staten Island.” This past weekend, the Mayor also joined the Indian community in celebrating their heritage by marching in the Indian Day Parade on Sunday. Earlier in the week, he celebrated with the Pakistani community, raising their flag in honor of their Independence Day and attending the Pakistani Brooklyn Mela. Finally, with Hurricane Erin generating dangerous rip currents, all New York City beaches will be closed on August 20th and August 21st for the safety of residents and visitors.
