Dear Fellow New Yorker,
This past week, Mayor Adams released the "Best Budget Ever", a balanced, $115.1 billion Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 Executive Budget that makes new investments in a safer, more affordable city that is the best place to raise a family. Through strong fiscal management, the Adams administration has, once again, set the table for strategic investments that protect funding for critical services, invests in public safety by allocating funding for key criminal justice reform programs, and puts the New York City Police Department (NYPD) on track to reach a uniformed headcount of up to 35,000 officers by the fall of 2026.
This past week, CAU marked NYC Day of Prayer, which coincided with the National Day of Prayer. CAU attended Day of Prayer events at houses of worship throughout the five boroughs, and presented citations of recognition on behalf of Mayor Adams. Here in New York City, we are proud to celebrate faith and the role it plays in building and strengthening our communities.
April was Arab-American Heritage Month. Mayor Adams hosted an Arab-American business roundtable this past week, which provided an opportunity to meet with community leaders and members of all faiths to discuss ways we can continue serving our city together. Thank you to the leaders who joined us at City Hall. We look forward to continuing our support for their growing businesses.
Mayor Adams also hosted the first-ever reception to celebrate Vaisakhi at Gracie Mansion this past week. Vaisakhi is a holiday observed by our Sikh brothers and sisters to mark the creation of the Khalsa by the 10th Guru in 1699, and is also celebrated by our Panjabi community to mark harvest time. We honor the Sikh community’s commitment to service and their contributions to this city.
Happy Cinco de Mayo! Cinco de Mayo is a joyful celebration that brings all people together to honor Mexican heritage and resilience. Today, Mayor Adams delivered remarks at a flag-raising ceremony for Mexico. Finally, wishing all mothers in NYC a Happy Mother's Day this weekend!

All the best, Fred Kreizman Commissioner, Community Affairs Unit Office of the Mayor |
