Dear Fellow New Yorker,

This past week, Mayor Adams welcomed leaders from our city's Bangladeshi communities to Gracie Mansion. From Jackson Heights in Queens to City Line in Brooklyn, New York City is proud to be home to the largest Bangladeshi community in the nation, and we celebrate their contributions every day.

Mayor Adams announced "Axe the Tax for the Working Class”, an ambitious proposal to bring significant tax relief to working-class families and return over $63 million to more than 582,000 New Yorkers. The plan would eliminate the New York City Personal Income Tax for filers with dependents living at or below 150 percent of the federal poverty line, as well as lower city personal income taxes for filers immediately above that threshold too.

Finally, Passover begins this Saturday, April 12th. We wish all who celebrate a Chag Kasher v’Sameach (happy holiday).

NYC Charter Revision Commission Public Input Sessions

The New York City Charter Revision Commission (CRC) wants to hear from New Yorkers! The CRC is empowered to review the City Charter to ensure that City government is as responsive and effective as possible, with a focus on the housing crisis. The CRC is holding a series of public hearings across the five boroughs, including on April 9 at 5pm in Staten Island (see flyer below). For additional hearing dates and more information, visit nyc.gov/charter.

Mayor Adams, Corporation Counsel Goode-Trufant Announce Lawsuit Against Nine Major National Distributors for Illegally Selling Disposable Flavored E-Cigarettes, Celebrate new Phase of Highly Successful "Operation Padlock to Protect" Initiative

Mayor Eric Adams and New York City Corporation Counsel Muriel Goode-Trufant announced that the City of New York has filed a federal lawsuit against nine of the largest nationwide distributors of disposable e-cigarettes, popularly known as “vapes” — the most popular devices for nicotine use among middle and high school youth. The defendants — all of whom have close relationships with e-cigarette manufacturers in China — are alleged to be distributing e-cigarettes with such youth-attracting flavors as pink lemonade, watermelon, banana ice, lychee ice, and cool mint to sub-distributors in the city that then supply them to retail stores or sell them directly to consumers in New York City and around the country through online sales. 

Mayor Adams Announces Traffic Deaths Reach Historic Low During First Quarter of 2025, Additional Work to Be Done to Keep New Yorkers Safe

Mayor Eric Adams and New York City Department of Transportation (DOT) Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez announced that traffic deaths in New York City reached historic lows during the first quarter of 2025. An across-the-board decline in deaths of pedestrians, cyclists, operators of motorized two-wheelers, and motor vehicle occupants underscores the success of “Vision Zero” and the importance of street safety work advanced under the Adams administration. There were 41 traffic deaths during the first three months of 2025 — 24 fewer than last year and the second fewest of any year in recorded history (there were 40 to start 2018).

Mayor Adams, DOT Commissioner Rodriguez Prepare for Expansion of Red-Light Cameras in Nation's Largest Automated Enforcement Network

Mayor Eric Adams and New York City Department of Transportation (DOT) Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez announced DOT has identified a vendor to continue managing New York City’s automated enforcement camera programs, including its red-light cameras, speed cameras, and bus lane enforcement cameras citywide, as well as cameras used to enforce weight limits on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway (BQE). Verra Mobility was identified to manage the programs — the largest network of its kind in the nation — and DOT will now enter into contract negotiations with the company.
